From the recording The Book of Spells
This song is inspired by the iconic seaside victorian house in the film Practical Magic.
However, it is also in honor of all the beautiful victorian, yet sometimes mysterious houses that line the streets of the eastern United States.
Lyrics
Spiral staircase, wooden shelves
Filled with bottles, books, and shells,
Wrought iron chandelier hangs down,
Dripping candle wax.
Spandrels line the covered porch,
Climbing ivy red as torch,
Wind chimes ringing, hanging swings,
Turrets rise above.
This old house has secrets
Filled with mystery and lore
Hang your hat and place your broom stick
By the cellar door.
When the wind starts knocking
Lock the shutters tight
She’s the daytime jewel of town,
But be wary come the night.
Open attic, secret doors,
Light peaking through the wooden floors,
Climbing up the creaking stairs,
Flickering lights go out.
This old house has secrets
Filled with mystery and lore
Hang your hat and place your broom stick
By the cellar door.
When the wind starts knocking
Lock the shutters tight
She’s the daytime jewel of town,
But be wary come the night.
Windows lit by candlelight,
Mysterious creatures roam the night,
Whispering wind blows through the trees,
Full moon shines down.
This old house has secrets
Filled with mystery and lore
Hang your hat and place your broom stick
By the cellar door.
When the wind starts knocking
Lock the shutters tight
She’s the daytime jewel of town,
But be wary come the night.
